This glyph, recently uncovered during an archeological dig in a remote jungle area of Guatemala creates questions of whether the Mayan civilization used the llama as a beast of burden.
From the glyph it is clear that the ancient Mayans were aware of the llama, but it is assumed that the climate was too hot for these woolly camelids and that they moved north to find a more moderate climate. Nowadays they can be seen lazing in the shade of maple trees on the slopes of Mount Lehman in British Columbia.
