Fraser Valley Llama and Alpaca Club has some active spinners and people
involved in using the wonderful fibre produced by llamas and alpacas. Some members belong to various spinning and weaving guilds, and some get together informally the 2nd Monday of every month to spin together, and the 3rd Monday of every month to felt together. For further information on these informal groups (meeting in member’s homes) call or e-mail: Rose-Ann Lewis 604-794-7138 or Jane Pinkerton 604-856-3196.
We also put together display and demonstrations for Agrifair, etc.
Our first project was an ambitious one but it really got some of us spinning enthusiastically! The idea was to donate an afghan to the Canadian Llama Association Conference that was held in Kamloops in 1995. Various members of our FVLAC donated fibre, some of our members carded it and prepared it for spinning, some other members spun and still others knit squares for the afghan project. One person then crocheted all the squares together to finish a lovely warm, colourful (natural colours) creation.
At the CLA auction bidding was fierce and the final SOLD was at $1500! We were all elated! The lucky buyer was Alan Webber, from Terrace. He promised to give it a good home!
The first rough assembly of the afghan was pretty exciting. Pictured here are Donna MacDonald, Pat Hilton, Jane Pinkerton and Rose-Ann Lewis.
