Conformation Clinic

What a day! Brilliant sunshine, good conversation and LOTS of great tips on showing llamas! Llama owners, new and experienced, arrived early at Anne MacDonald’s farm eager to, learn and share at Niki Anderson-Kuklenski’s Grooming and Conformation Clinic.

Niki began her presentation with an overview of conformation and what to look for in choosing a “show” llama. She then demonstrated showmanship techniques with a lovely young llama owned by Richard & Helen Ward. Participants were encouraged to ask questions and try their hand at showing. This was followed by a barbeque lunch served by the 4H members and everyone took the opportunity to visit, relax and enjoy the warm sun.

After lunch, Niki discussed grooming procedures and demonstrated several different products. We then broke into groups for a hands-on grooming session. This gave Niki the chance to work with us and our llamas individually.

The day gradually came to a close and I feel confident that everyone benefited from Niki’s expertise and enthusiasm. Thank you to all the members who supported this event. I was truly impressed with the number of people who stepped forward and offered help.

Special thanks to Anne, Kiwi & Tanya for volunteering their facilities and to Marilyn Ross for lending her stall panels.

Also a vote of thanks to the 4-H members and their leaders for the wonderful concession. That early morning coffee and donuts were greatly appreciated!

4-H members and leaders relaxing after providing a lunch concession, watching Niki demonstrating grooming a llama, and at the same time, doing some needle felting.

And lastly, my heartfelt thanks to Niki for sharing her passion, humor and talent.

See you at the shows!
