Fraser Valley
Llama and
Alpaca Club

About the logo . . .

The club logo was originally designed for the 1992 Canadian Llama Association Conference which was held in White Rock, B.C. That year it was used for posters, notecards, and sweatshirts which were extremely poplular.

Clarence Wells, a well-known Tsimpshian artist who specializes in traditional West Coast native designs did this for us as a favour. It took about ten years to convince Clarence to do a llama and most of his fellow artist thought he was crazy to do a design of such an unconventional animal. He was finally persuaded when it was pointed out that llamas originated in North America and only became extinct on this continent about ten thousand years ago.

He is a well educated, highly organized and disciplined artist who has lectured in schools and universities, travelled extensively and worked as a logger, fisherman and commercial artist. He has participated in art shows both in North America and Europe. Clarence thoroughly understands the northern style of the Haida, Tlingit and Tsimpshian. His award winning designs are internationally recognized and referred to by prominent anthroplogical scholars. The silkscreen print on the right, done in 1980, is titled “Owl”.

The members of the Fraser Valley Llama and Alpaca have now adopted the llama design as their logo and are very proud to wear the beautiful T-shirts and sweat shirts that are available from Heather Schidt. The sweat shirt is shown below.

T-shirts are $15.00 and sweat shirts are $25.00.
