More than a “Drizzle” it was pouring!

Twinkle twinkle, little star
. . . like a diamond in the sky . . .

First thing early, six a.m.
Star was in the barn, pregnant and overdue
But when I came out about nine a.m.
SURPRISE! A head, black and white, was showing
Back to the house, puffing away because of the hurry
Phoned the vet, the daughter, the friend.
Vet coming right away — just down the hill.
Collected camera and towel and out to the barn
More of the legs showing and top of the body
A slight touch to the legs and
The cria slipped out!
An Appaloosa, black, white, brown and grey.
Cleaned the nostrils and it’s a boy!
Vet arrived to do the necessary checks
and everything okay. Weigh-in — thirty pounds.
Friend and son arrived and set to work
On towelling, pooper scooping, treats etc.
Not enough room in the barn but everybody busy.
Most important, Star, the new llama mama
Very proud, very protective, but not aggressive.
Cria up on wobbly legs and off to find the milk bar.
A diamond on his forehead, and diamonds all over!
Beautiful multicoloured fleece and long, oh so long legs,
My name for him “DIAMOND” chosen before birth,
But the vet said because of the weather “DRIZZLE”
So now he is a “DRIZZLE of DIAMONDS”
